ARP SUCCESSION : GERMANS RECEIVE HEAVY SENTENCE
01 January 2000

Dieter Lange, the Chairman of the Hans Arp association founded by Johannes Wasmuth in Germany and three forwarding agents, were sentenced to pay a fine of 68,1 million FF (US $ 10, 476,000) by a Versailles court on January 20th 2000 after being accused of taking away 146 works from the French Arp foundation in nearby Clamart which had been intercepted on May 22nd 1996 by French customs.

The Versailles court ruled that these works were listed as national treasures by the French State and were valued at about $ US 700,000.

The defendants claimed that these paster works carried only a small value (less than $ 50,000). They have decided to appeal against the court decision.
