Twelve Mouton-Rothschild Bordeaux «1er cru Pauillac» wine bottles of 1945 sold for 370 000 FF (US $ 50,680) (Not inclusive of buyer's premium) on April 20th 2000 at the Drouot salesrooms. This bid doubled the pre-sale estimate due to the fact that each was numbered and bearing the «V» of the 1945 war victory.
Meanwhile, 48 bottles of a 1982 Margaux wine went for 127 500 FF (US $ 17,465) and 24 bottles of Lafite-Rothschild of 1890 sold for 160 000 FF (US $ 21,910). Another wine enthusiast paid 192 000 FF (US $ 26,300) for 36 bottles of Latour 1959. Rare wines do have a strong dollar flavour nowadays.
