KARL LAGERFELD'S GENEROUS GIFT

German-born fashion designer Karl lagerfeld, whose collection of Old Masters will be sold in New York on May 23rd 2000, has decided to donate two important oil paintings by Phillipe de Champaigne (1602-1674) to the French
State, a spokesman for Christie's announced in Paris on April 13th 2000.

«The Entry of Christ in Jerusalem» and «Christ and the Cananaan Woman», two works painted by de Champaigne for Queen Marie de Medicis pour the «Queen's Room» in the Carmelite convent of rue St Jacques in Paris built between 1610 and 1615, will thus be reunited with three other large paintings of a series of six religious representations EXHIBITION OF PRIMITIVEEthat were dispersed during the French Revolution, «Lazarus' ressurection», «The Assumption» and «Pentecost» now in the Val de Grâce museum in Paris.
