The theme is rare in Christian art after the Middle Ages. The combination of cobalt blue and copper-red lustre is rare in fifteenth-century Spanish pottery. An attribution to Manises in Valencia has been suggested, though it may be the work of Valencian craftsmen who had emigrated to Catalonia. This jar may be of the type described as pots blaus regalats ("pots melted with blue") in a document of 1449 (see Ray 2000, p.89)

of slightly waisted form on a flat base with everted foot, with sloping shoulder, high cylindrical neck and everted mouth, decorated in cobalt blue and brown lustre, the body with vertical panels with tree-of-life motifs with dotted filler pattern alternating with panels of stylised palemettes reserved on a solid lustre ground between blue borders, the shoulder with a running leaf design in reserve, the neck with hatched squares in a blue grid 
with slightly everted sides and sloping flattened rim, moulded with raised central boss and gadrooned rim, painted in brilliant golden lustre and cobalt blue with a central armorial shield set in a blue roundel bordered with nine slanting gadroons filled with alternating fish-scale and wheel patterns, the well and cavetto with narrow concentric bands bordered in blue with stylised thistles, fish-scale and wheel patterns extending to the gadroons on the rim, the back with radial lines in the central recess surrounded by stylised leaves and scrolls, two rim holes for suspension
