The Iziko-SA National Gallery in Cape Townhas opened an exhibition dedicated to the Daimler Chrysler art collectiondue to last until November 2004. DaimlerChrysler AG owns one of the world'smost prestigious corporate art collections and a selection of about 200of its most important works, from Josef Albers to Andy Warhol, from SylvieFleury to Jane Alexander is touring South Africa in 2004. The exhibitionat Iziko South African National Gallery coincided with the celebrationof German unification and the German Cultural Weeks.
The DaimlerChrysler Collection reflectssignificant developments in 20th century abstract art, starting with groupsof work from the Concrete, Constructivist, Minimalist and Conceptual artmovements, then moving on to the most recent international trends in abstractart. Parts of the collection are dedicated to car-related art, contemporarySouth African art and new media. The art works have been specially assembledand are presented to give South African viewers a tour of the last fiftyyears of international art production and history.
