Renoir: five great paintings from the Clark Art Institute
01 January 2002

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta has started an exhibition dedicated to five great paintings by Renoir from the Clark Institute due to run until February 24th 2002.

Of all the Impressionists, Pierre-Auguste Renoir was the artist most in love with the feel of paint. In his canvases he captured light in transparent layers of color. The exhibition “A Passion for Renoir” brings Atlanta a rare opportunity to view five luminous paintings by this important Impressionist.

Renoir's distinctive brushwork is particularly exquisite in his depictions of women, such as the elegant figures in “At the Concert”, a major work from Renoir's early career. “A Passion for Renoir” represents a special collaboration between the High Museum of Art and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute of Williamstown, Massachusetts.
