Auction sales in France amounted to 9,73 billion FF (US $ 1,47 billion) in 1999 with art sales in Paris alone fetching 2,83 billion FF ($ 428,78 million) for art sales out of a total of 3,56 billion FF ($ 539,39 million) for all sales of second hand goods. The region of Lyons recorded a turnover of 1,129 billion FF ($ 171,06 million) against 886,5 million FF ($ 134,31 million) for auction houses located in the Parisian region (exclusive of the capital itself).
