WORLD RECORD FOR A WATCH
01 December 1999

A gold Patek Philippe & Co openface minute repeating Westminster chimes, grande sonnerie, double-dialed split seconds, chronograph clock-watch with perpetual calendar, moon phases, equation of time, alarm indications for time of sunset/sunrise and the night sky of New York city sold for US $ 11 million, the biggest bid ever recorded for any single watch on December 2nd 1999 at Sotheby's in New York. This unique model, made in 1933 for Henry Graves Junior, bearing the number 198385, was perhaps the greatest achievement in the history of clock-making, notably regarding its many complicated features.
It carried a pre-sale estimate of between US $ 3 and 5 million.
