The sale of the succession of Princess Soraya, ex-wife of the Shah of Iran who died on October 25th 2001 in Paris, will take place between May 29th and 31st 2002 in the Drouot-Montaigne salesrooms, a few steps away from her Parisian home. Soraya first lived a fairy tale when she married the Shah in 1951 but her incapacity to bear him a child eventually led to her disgrace seven years later.
After her divorce she lived in exile in Europe where she frequented the Jet Set circles and the cinema world. Known as the Sad Princess she was about to remarry but her fiancé, film director Franco Indovina, died in a car accident.
The much-publicised sale of her belongings estimated at € 3 million, including 300 silver pieces and jewels, will be organised by the Paris auctioning group Beaussant-Lefèvre.
The sale will also include pieces of furniture, objects of art, paintings and documents while its organisers expect that the final turnover will reach at least €4 million.
Her 22-carat diamond ring signed by Harry Winston might alone well reach US $ 500,000 and her Bulgari ruby earring pendants could sell beyond $ 150,000.
