Art Miami remains set for January
01 November 2001

Following the recent announcement by the organizers of Art Basel regarding the one-year postponement of the show's Miami Beach debut, Art Miami director Ilana Vardy has announced that plans remain unchanged for the 12th edition of Art Miami, scheduled for Friday, January 4-Tuesday, January 8, 2002.

More than 100 galleries from 24 countries have confirmed their continued support
of Art Miami, long considered one of Miami's most important cultural events. According to Vardy, there is heightened anticipation of the upcoming contemporary art exposition, which offers visitors a unique opportunity to discover a wide selection of affordable and museum - quality works of art in a world class setting.

Peter Osborne, director of the Berkeley Square Gallery of London and a longtime participant in Art Miami, conveyed the views of many exhibitors with his statement of support. "We are fully committed to our participation in Art Miami and plan to bring our best ever exhibition. We look forward, as ever, to coming to Florida in January and we are confident that our success will continue in 2002."

In addition to the wide range of exhibitors, an expanded slate of programs and special events are on tap, including the return of Currents, a show within the show presenting young galleries and artists creating provocative, challenging work. Project Rooms will feature solo exhibitions throughout the fair by artists working in
a variety of media, including photography, painting, installation and sculpture.

A panel of South Florida's top curators has selected participants for these intriguing exhibits. And, in a special opening night presentation staged by Galerie Anne Lettree (Paris), artist Bea Aaronson's synaesthetic, erotic collages are just one element in amulti-media performance piece that pays homage to the poet Baudelaire.

Other special exhibitions include a presentation of recent photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki, hosted by a-d's Juan Carlos Arcila Duque; and a continuation of Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen's Cosmopolitan Chicken series inaugurated in Belgium and London by curator Jan Hoet and the Lisson Gallery respectively.

Art Miami 2002 will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Hall D.
