ALMOST 342 MILLION USD FOR SOTHEBY'S SALE OF CONTEMPORARY ART

ALMOST 400 MILLION USD FOR CHRISTIE'S SALE OF IMPRESSIONIST AND MODERN ART
Christie's evening sale of Impressionist and Modern art held on May 13 in New York fetched $399 million—hitting the high pre-sale estimate and far surpassing the low estimate of $287.5 million. Of the 63 lots offered, 54, or 86 percent, were sold while new auction records were set for works by Balthus and Pierre Bonnard.

THE DAY ADRIAN DARMON DISAPPEARED
Adrian Darmon, a long-time serving journalist and art historian who created half a dozen magazines and the artcult website in 1996, seems to have disappeared on February 18 on his way to testify before the correctional court of Toulon with the hope that the dealer who stole from him a rare Derain fauve painting between February 2 and 4, 2016, would be metted down with a harsh condemnation.

CHRISTIE'S SALE OF IMPRESSIONIST AND MODERN ART A BIT DISAPPOINTING
Christie's sale of Impressionist and Modern art held in London on February 27 yielded 165.7 million GBP, below a pre-sale estimate of at least 179 million after three lots were withdrawn, while a Claude Monet waterlily pond with a weeping willow at Giverny estimated at 40 million was left unsold.

2018 WAS GOOD FOR CHRISTIE'S
Christie's has announced that their 2018 sales totaled $7 billion (including 653.3 million in private transactions), up six percent from 2017, however below results achieved in 2014 ($8.4 billion) and 2015 ($7.4 billion).
