Christie's London. The price for such excellent portrait painted in 1798 went well above the high pre-sale estimate of £ 6,000. The son of a German modeller, Engleheart studied in the studio of Reynolds and worked chiefly in London. He was one of the most productive British miniaturists and painted thousands of portraits which are however far from always having the same quality. His finest portraits were painted around 1800.
