Christie's London. A surprising bid for this miniature, which only carried a £ 600 to 800 estimate, however explainable by the fact that it represented an Indian sitter. Such subjects are much sought by amateurs. Humphry and several other British artists such as Smart or Chinnery worked for a while in India.
