Christie's London. The first miniature carried an estimate of £ 15,000 to 25,000 and the second one of £ 6,000 to 8,000. A price of over £ 49,000 for Autissier seems to be a world record for this artist who started to work at 12. he went to Paris in 1795 after having been a soldier for several years and then settled in Brussels the following year. He also was in Paris for some time from 1801 and met great fame. In 1806 he was called to Holland where Louis Napoleon conferred him the title of painter to the king. He remained there until 1809. Autissier was undoubtedly a great artist as he painted remarkable miniatures though the portrait of King William seems a bit austere.
