The Asian
art sale organised at Christie's on June 13 2018 achieved a
total of 7,497,000 euros selling 79% by lot and 90% by value.The top lot of the sale was a rare and important gilt-bronze figure of Buddha
Shakyamuni, which sold for 967,500 euros against a presale estimate of 300,000-500,000
euros.
Several lots more than doubled their presale estimate, such
as a rare and important ivory 'dragon' square
seal that was made for the emperor Wanli,
which sold for 475,500 euros (estimate 100,000-150,000), a blue vase and
white 'phoenix and dragon' double-vase
and cover, estimated 10,000-15,000 euros which reached f150,000 euros and a cloisonné enamel 'Lotus stupa' acquired for 143,750 euros against a high estimate of 15,000..
Additional highlights included a
painting by Qi Baishi Shrimps which
sold for 92,000 euros against a presale estimate of 30,000-40,000, and a white
and brown-glazed biscuit figure of a monkey which was in the former private
collection of Coco Chanel which was
culminated at 90,000 euros against a
presale estimate of 4,000-6,000.
French private collections are still
attracting a large public of buyers looking for items fresh to the market such
as a massive underglaze blue, red and celadon vase from the Qing dynasty which
sold for 137,500 euros against a presale estimate of 40,000-60,000 .
