ROTHSCHILD AUCTION IN EUROPE... LARGEST EVER
01 July 1999

Seeking to acquire their own taste of Rothschild, bidders competed on July 8th 1999 for a famous collection of paintings, furniture and ornaments stolen by the Nazis in World War II and only recently returned to their rightful owners.

The treasures of the Rothschild family fetched more than double their expected prices, with the Christie's sale earning a total of US $ 90.7 million, the biggest auction ever held in Europe.
