FRENCH SALES FOR 1998
01 March 1999


French auction sales rose by 4,25% in 1998 compared with 1997 with a total turnover of 8 863 millions FF (US $ 1555 million).

The best progression was for the Normandy region with a 95% rise in sales whereas art sales for Drouot-Paris totalled 3 432 million FF (US $ 586,3 million) against 3 340 million FF in 1997.

Pieces of quality sold well during 1998 but average stuff did not as buyers have been more selective in their choices.
