The projected reform of auction sales in France was once again delayed when the French Senate postponed its examination on May 3rd 1999.
The bill was due to be voted last year but due to several delays it was intended to come under the scrutiny of the Senate last March and then last week.
The chairman of the French auctioneers Association expressed dissatisfaction regarding such procrastination and lashed out against the government's unself-consciousness. «The government is not conscious of the consequences of such postponements. There is no use to cry over the evasion of our patrimony and not to give ourselves the means to keep it is the expression of some incoherent policy. Without an active auction market, the whole of our domain of activity will suffer», Chairman Gérard Champin said.
The project will be discussed on May 19th 1999 and during a public session on June 10th meaning that the National Assembly will not be able to implement a vote before next fall.
