CEZANNE STOLEN AT THE ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM
01 January 2000

Thieves broke into the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford during the night of December 31st 1999 and stole a painting by Cézanne entitled «Auvers-sur-Oise» painted between 1879 and 1882.

They neglected several major paintings in the room where that work was hanging, police said.

Art thefts in Britain are amounting to some US $ 800 million every year.
