A new contemporary art centre permanently running from noon to midnight was inaugurated on January 22nd 2002 at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The Palais de Tokyo, site for contemporary arts was founded thanks to an
initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Communication. This new centre finally opens to the public on 22 for a special five-day preview of exceptional events free of charge, between 22nd and 26th January, five days to mark the beginning of this adventure before the official opening on 29 .
Over the years the Palais de Tokyo has been home to a number of institutions,
including Paris's modern art museum, the Musée national d'art moderne, before it was relocated to the heart of the Georges Pompidou Centre. Now the
Palais is once again opening its doors to artists and the public, revealing its most radically spare self.
The Palais has been refurbished in a permanent dialog between the directors of this site for contemporary arts, Nicolas Bourriaud and Jérôme Sans, and the architects behind the Palais's new look, Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal. A truly vital place at the intersection of all of today's emerging cultures, the Palais de Tokyo is intended as a public space in perpetual motion, an institution that is being constantly reactivated.
