SOTHEBY'S.COM FETCHES RECORD PRICE WITH U.S DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

Sotheby's sold an original printed leaf of the U.S declaration of independence on the Web for a record US $ 8.14 million during the first week of .

This historical piece, published in Philadelphia on July 4th 1776 in a limited edition (only 25 leaves have survived), had been found hidden behind a picture bought for a mere $ 4 in an antique fair in 1989. Its lucky owner had sold it back two years later at Sotheby's New York for the incredible price of $ 2,4 million. It was Norman Lear, a well-known American TV producer, who bought it last week on the Net.
