Welti Robert
(1862-1912) Nationality: Swiss Activity: Painter and engraver Average rate: Between $ 8000 and 16.000 Welti first studied at the Industrial School of Zurich and then at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts before working under Boecklin.
He belonged to the German Romantic school but did not inherit the sombre inspiration of his master.
Welti was the modest interpreter of familiar and mystic scenes and after sojourns in Paris and Vienna and went in 1889 to Munich where he received the support of a rich patron.
he took part in many exhibitions in Paris and was asked to decorate the main rooms of the Council of Bern in 1908. he however did not manage to finish his monumental composition of the Landes gemeinde, which was eventually completed by his main aide Wilhelm Balmer.
