(1750 or 1752-1793) Nationality: British Activity: Painter and draughtsman

John Weber or Webber was the son of a sculptor from Bern, Switzerland. He first studied painting in Paris and came back to London in 1775 where he completed his studies at the Royal Academy.

He accompanied Captain Cook in his last voyage and returned to England with numerous drawings recording Cooks expedition and murder by natives.

Weber exhibited his works in London between 1776 and 1792. Admitted at the R.A in 1785, he became an academician in 1791.

His portrait of Captain Cook is now in the London National Gallery while an episode of the latters voyage is in the Victoria and Albert Museum alongside several other works.
