Wldmuller studied painting in Vienna with Maurer and Lampi and became an Academician in 1835.

He exhibited his works in Vienna from 1832 and married an actress whom he followed during her various tours before settling in Vienna.

Much inspired by Thomas Lawrence as a portrait painter Wldmuller also painted charming interior scenes in a Romantic manner as well as landscapes around Vienna.
