TRIUMPH FOR DIEGO GIACOMETTI AT CHRISTIE'S
On 6 March 2017 in Paris, Christie's The Giacomettis of Hubert de Givenchy auction achieved a total of €32,748,500 with 100% of the lots sold above their pre-sale estimate.
The top price of the evening was Diego Giacometti's octogonal table aux caryatides et atlantes, executed circa 1980 which realised €4,162,500 (estimate: €600,000-800,000) establishing a new auction record for the artist.
Sotheby's Evening Sales of Impressionist & Modern Art and Surrealist Art held on March 1 2017 at Sotheby's London totalled £194,753,500, a sum which more than doubled the equivalent sale organized last year with a sell-through rate of 88.9%.
CHRISTIE'S SALE ART OF THE SURREAL FETCHES A TOTAL OF OVER 136 MILLION GBP The Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale and Art of the Surreal at Christie's in London on February 28 2017, achievied a combined total of £136,874,598 with lively bidding for Portrait de Lluis Alemany, a work dating from the very beginning of Picasso's career (£773,000 ) and continued with Berthe Morisot's "Femme en noir or Avant le théâtre", which achieved £2,045,000 against a pre-sale estimate of £600,000-800,000 and her "Femme et enfant au balcon" , which more than doubled its high estimate to realise £4,085,000.
