He described the use of his new optical instrument that he invented for astronomical observations and made him a pioneer in the field that eventually led to the development of photography. Levy Ben studied art at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C, and started her career in 1976. She has produced bronze sculptures, as well as paintings of wildlife shown in several exhibitions in the U.S before moving to Israel in 1981. Since 1989, she has been collaborating with her husband, Chaim.

Benichou, Philippe

Born in Algeria, Benichou almost immediately moved in to Nantes with his family. During the 1970s he studied philosophy, French literature, cinema and theatre arts and was taught painting by his mother Arlette Oger. Benichou then settled in the U.S in 1976 and studied acting and film directing at New York University. After moving to California in 1986, he embarked on a career as a painter in oils, mixed media and pastel and worked in the studio of Francis Coelho, a painter and sculptor active in Mill Valley. Benichou's abstract Expressionist paintings are the accounts of his travels and metaphysical reflections

Born into a Sephardic family in India, Siona Benjamin has been producing paintings and collage sculptures, which incorporate Muslim, Hindu and Jewish images.
Benn Ben, Benjamin Rosenberg called Benn

Born in the Ukraine, Benn Ben immigrated with his family to New York at 10. Benn attended the National Academy of Design between 1904 and 1908 and then worked under the influence of European modernism producing traditional subject matter - portraits, figures, landscapes and still lives. He then became stylistically more eclectic and went on to depict urban scenes. Benn's first solo exhibition was held in 1925 and in 1926-1927, was included in shows at the Jewish Art Center. After World War Two, Benn experimented with geometric grids, Cubist faceting and swirling networks of line. His work was exhibited in a retrospective at the Jewish Museum in 1965.
Bennet, Salomon

Bennet left Plock in Poland to study art in Copenhagen and in Berlin, where he became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1796 but left that city four years later after showing his disgust about how Jews were treated there.
