Vladimir Weisberg, who was one of the Soviet Union's leading psychoanalysts before becoming a painter, was seriously wounded during World War Two. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev later accused him of producing pornographic works after exhibiting a nude painting in the early 1960s. Greatly influenced by Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in his early work, Vladimir Weisberg however became known in Jerusalem, Paris and London and also for his researches on colors claiming that their use started to have a scientific meaning with Delacroix. Experimenting with the fragmentation of color on canvas he later tried to reshape Cezanne's ideas about color to coincide with his own painterly experiences. He was given solo exhibitions at the Israel Museum in 1975 in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 1979, at the Galerie Garig Basmadjian in 1984 in Paris and posthumously in Moscow at the State Tretyakov Gallery in 1988 and 1994.
