Yakovlev, Vladimir Igorevich Birth - Death : 1934- Nationality : Russian
Yakovlev studied to a be a professional photograph retoucher but was hampered by a serious eye disease. From his childhood, he tried to work in gouache and watercolor and became seriously involved in painting when he saw Western works in 1957 at the Festival of Youth in Moscow. The same year Yakolev created his first abstract work and shortly thereafter he turned to painting portraits and flowers. He had a solo exhibition in 1962 in Moscow and exhibited with Shteinberg at the Dostoyevsky Museum in 1963 and at MOSSKH in 1968. Since 1970, Yakovlev participated in various exhibitions in Russia and abroad, including a solo show at the Tel Aviv Museum in 1972. Although he has not painted during the last decade, Yakovlev's works have been included in various group exhibitions.
Yanai, Adina Birth - Death : 1943- Nationality : Israeli
Yanai studied art at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and taught in Chile and at the Israel Museum of Jerusalem in 1971. She has produced abstract serigraphs chiefly.
Yankilevsky, Vladimir Birth - Death : 1938- Nationality : Russian
Yankilevsky first studied art with his father before he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Graphic Arts in 1962, the year he took part in his first exhibition with the Belyutin Studio Group. Yankilevsky became a member of the Sretensky Boulevard group, which included Kabakov, Bulatov, Pivovarov and Shteinberg but his work was criticised by Soviet leader Nikita KhrushcHev. Widely included in exhibitions in Western Europe from the mid 1970s through the 1990s, he had begun producing triptychs in the early 1960s to express human being's place in the cosmos in a derisive way. Yankilevsky has had solo exhibitions in 1988 in Bochum, a German town where he settled, the Dina Vierny Gallery in 1990, the Paris Art Center and the Centre d'Art Contemporain in 1991 and 1994.
Yehudayan, Shlomo Birth - Death : 1937- Nationality : Iranian then Israeli
Painter. Yehudayan immigrated to Israel in 1950 and studied art with Yosef Schwartzman in Tel Aviv and at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. A curator at the Safed Museum of Printed Arts, he took part in many exhibitions in Israel.
Yohai, Albert Birth - Death : 1936- Nationality : Egyptian then Israeli
Yohai immigrated to Israel in 1949 and frequented the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv before going to Paris, where he furthered his studies until 1967. Yohai showed his paintings in Tel Aviv from 1962 and in Rome.
Yucht, Esther Birth - Death : 20th Century Nationality : Polish then Israeli
Born in Poland, Esther Yucht settled in Palestine in 1936 and studied painting under Aharon Avni. She exhibited Expressionist city views and landscapes from 1971 in Israel.
