Telingater studied at Vkhutemas in Moscow from 1920 to 1921 and was appointed head of the Art Studio of the House of Communist Education in Baku, where he also became a reporter for several newspapers between 1921 and 1925. He then moved to Moscow and participated in the periodical PoligrafcHeskoe Proivodstvo”. He was a close friend of Rodchenko and his wife Stepanova, as well of El Lissitzky whom he helped make his avant-garde hand-made books. He took part in numerous exhibitions from 1927 as well as in a major one called Art of the Book in 1931 in Paris. In 1932, Telingater worked for the Theatre of the Red Army in Moscow, experimenting boldly with photomontage and collage. He was awarded a gold medal at the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris and a gold medal at the 1959 International Exhibition of Book Design of Socialist Countries. In 1963, Telingater was awarded the International Gutenberg Prize in Leipzig. "
