Pailes, Isaac
Birth - Death : 1895-1978
Nationality : Ukrainian
Pailes took an interest in sculpture and engraving at 13 and frequented in 1910 the Academy in Kiev where he met I. Ryback and Max Kaganovitch, who was to become his dealer forty years later. He arrived in Paris in 1913 and after coming back to Kiev a year later, he was drafted into the Russian Army. Pailes however, soon deserted and sought refuge in Turkey before returning in 1919 to France, where he befriended Kikoine and Isaac Dobrinsky. He then gave up sculpture for painting in 1920 and took part in many Salons in Paris showing landscapes and still lives. During the Second World War, Pailes lived in hiding in the Pyrenees and in the Auvergne regions before joining a French Resistance group of fighters. Back in Paris, after the war he started to paint abstract works in 1948.

Nationality : Polish then American
Painter. Shortly after the outbreak of Word War Two, Palanski moved to Los Angeles where he was active until the early 1960s.

Paon-Zaharia, Paul
Birth - Death : 1915-
Nationality : Rumanian then Israeli
Paon-Zaharia worked as a physician and surgeon and later joined the Rumanian surrealist movement as a graphic artist. He showed his works in several one-man exhibitions from 1945 in Bucharest, London, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Paris. Paon-Zaharia's drawings represented what he called the mystery of permanent creation. He settled in Israel in 1961.

Parlaghy Brochfeld von Vilma, princess Elisabeth von Lwow

Nationality : Hungarian
Vilma Parlaghy worked as a portrait painter and exhibited her works in Berlin after studying painting in Munich. She earned great success in Germany and was appointed as an Academy officer by the French government in 1894, the year she was awarded a gold medal by the Prussian emperor. Two years later, she was given a medal for art and science by the king of Wurtemberg. She painted the portraits of many European monarchs and personalities and worked in the U.S.

Peixotto, Ernest Clifford de Maduro

Nationality : American
Painter and illustrator. Ernest Peixotto studied painting in Paris and visited Spain and Portugal. He taught drawing from 1909 at the Academy of Graphic Arts in New York and headed the department of mural paintings at the Institute of Arts and Design until 1926. Ernest Peixotto exhibited his works at the Salon de Paris in 1895 as well at the Salon des Artistes Francais and illustrated many books during his career.

Nationality : Bulgarian then Israeli
Peretz-Arad immigrated to Palestine as a child and studied painting with Aharon Avni in 1937 in Tel Aviv. She took part in many exhibitions in Israel, in the U.S and in Russia. She was awarded the Dizengoff Prize in 1956.
