Marcelle Cahn studied art in Strasbourg and then during the First World War in Berlin, where she frequented the Der Sturm\" group. She went to Paris in 1919 and met Munch in Zurich in 1922. She then studied under Leger and Ozenfant in Paris in 1925 and took part in several exhibitions in France and abroad. Cahn Marcelle was one of the precursors of geometrical abstraction during the 1930s but had little success during her lifetime though she strove to perfect her style and to define purer forms. Affected by a severe illness, she limited herself to producing collages at the end of her life. "

Carp, Esther

Nationality : Polish
Esther Carp was born in Warsaw into a family of musicians. She studied painting in Vienna before settling in 1925 in Paris, where she was much impressed by the works of Sisley and Cezanne. She exhibited her paintings at the Salons des Artistes Independants, d'Automne and des Tuileries as well as with the Union of French Women from 1930. She returned to Poland but became paranoid and had to be treated in various hospitals. Esther Carp survived the war after remaining hidden in a cellar for four years and went back to Paris, where she suffered other bouts of her illness. Feeling persecuted most of the time, Carp was sent to a psychiatric hospital in 1963 and then treated in southern France.

Painter. Marie Chabchay worked in Saint Petersburg before settling in Paris in 1927. She had two solo exhibitions there in 1945 and 1955. Chabchay then headed the Jewish Museum in Paris.

Chashnik, Ilya Grigorievich
Birth - Death : 1902-1929
Nationality : Lithuanian
Chashnik worked as a Supremacist artist with Malevich in Vitebsk and Petrograd. After studying drawing with Penn in Vitebsk he pursued his studies with Chagall at the Institute there. Chashnik then became one of Malevich's closest collaborators and was one of the founding members of the Unovis group. He moved in 1922 to Petrograd where he assisted Malevich at the Museum of Artistic Culture and began to apply Supremacist designs to utilitarian objects, represented in the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes\" in Paris. Chashnik died of appendicitis at 27. "
